The honest truth is scale and access. Many of the finest venues are intimate palazzi and rooftops that suit tens to around a hundred guests, the streets are stepped and partly pedestrian, and parking is minimal. For a larger wedding you look to the harbour hotels just outside the historic core.
High summer is intense. July and August are very hot and busy, so the shoulder months are far kinder for guests in formal dress. Marry in May, June, September or October, and plan transfers into the old city with care.

Getting there
Guests fly into Malta International Airport, around twenty minutes from Valletta, with direct flights from across Europe. The capital sits on a peninsula reached by a single approach, so transfers are short but can be slow at busy times. A traditional dghajsa boat across the Grand Harbour makes a memorable arrival.
Moving around the city
Valletta is small and largely pedestrian, with stepped streets and limited vehicle access in the core. This keeps the city beautiful but makes transfers and luggage a planning point, so keep guests in hotels close to the venue and arrange porters and short shuttles where needed.
The legal bit
Malta is one of the easiest places in Europe for a legally binding destination wedding. Civil and religious ceremonies are both recognised, paperwork is handled through the Marriage Registry with notice given in advance, and English is an official language, which removes the translation burden many countries impose.
