Choose Jaipur or Udaipur for Rajasthan's palace grandeur, Goa for relaxed coast with a Portuguese accent, or Kerala for green calm by the water. The window that works is the cool, dry season from roughly November to March, as the monsoon and the heat before it rule out much of the rest of the year.
An Indian celebration is rarely a single afternoon. Even pared back it tends to spread across several days and events, with a scale of colour, food and hospitality few other destinations match, and the palace hotels around Udaipur and Jaipur sit firmly at the top of the luxury market. Decide early how many days and how many guests you are really planning for, because that, more than the venue, sets the budget.
Plan around the weather: November to March is cool and dry across most of the country, while the monsoon from June to September and the fierce heat before it are best avoided for an outdoor wedding. The legal route for foreign couples, under the Special Marriage Act, is slow and bureaucratic, so many marry legally at home and hold the celebration here as a symbolic one, worth deciding before you fix a date.
